Job Description
Hill College is seeking a Director of Strategic Inefficiency, a leadership role dedicated to thoughtfully interrupting over-optimised routines in order to cultivate creativity, patience, and reflective practice within the school community. This role recognises that meaningful learning is rarely linear, and that growth often comes from allowing time for exploration, revision, and the occasional detour. The Director of Strategic Inefficiency will help create environments where students and staff are encouraged to slow down, think deeply, and experiment without the pressure of immediate perfection. By introducing intentional pauses and structured opportunities for trial and error, this role helps foster a culture where curiosity is valued over haste.
The successful candidate will collaborate across academic programs, leadership teams, and student initiatives to embed reflective, process-driven approaches into daily learning. They will support individuals and groups in identifying where efficiency is harming creativity or wellbeing, and design gentle interventions that restore balance and space for growth. This position requires a thoughtful communicator who values community, enjoys guiding others through uncertainty, and understands that sometimes the best ideas emerge when we allow time to wander, reconsider, and try again.
